Welder II is the next level of progression in the welding operation field. The purpose for an operator at this level is to increase their general knowledge of welding operations. Welder II fully demonstrates the ability to set up and operate CNC or manual equipment to produce precision parts for at least one program with basic complexity with direct supervision. Welder II follows and complies with established standard work under direct supervision. Welder II will typically refer problems or deviations to more experienced operators including Lead Technicians, Supervisors or engineers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate automatic and manual welding machines according to specifications.

  • Operate and do daily/weekly checks on equipment.

  • Operating the CNC equipment as required to complete the weld.

  • Inspect and check dimensions using precision gauges and measuring instruments.

  • Performing cleaning operations after welding as may be required in active production.

  • Perform non-production welds.

  • Make adjustments to equipment to ensure quality parts are produced.

  • Actively participates in the COPQ process, utilizes CORE portal for issues or process improvement.

  • Accurately complete production documentation and performs necessary labor transactions.

  • Support and follow all rules/guidelines/standards set by EHS, Quality, and CI functions as set by your leader and position.

  • Actively participates in the Continuous Improvement process as well as safety related activities

  • Working extended shifts/overtime as required by the business

  • Some Holiday hours may be required based on business need

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • HS diploma with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience. In the absence of a HS diploma or GED, 3 years of relevant experience is required.

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required


  • Welder Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Manufacturing background

  • TIG welding background

  • Manual dexterity to perform semi-routine tasks associated with welding

  • Basic knowledge with reading and understanding prints

  • Computer experience (e-mail, print documents, internet) and ability to operate a computer to access prints and/or specified work instructions

  • Basic shop math (addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals) including knowledge of Geometric Tolerances

  • Basic knowledge with identifying, analyzing, and resolving problems

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the impacts of machine(s) on metal and utilizes knowledge to make modifications

  • Basic knowledge of CORE principles and application

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of manual welding including angles, filter materials, inert gas chambers, seam welds, various metals thickness, etc.

  • Basic knowledge of most welding operations and a wide variety of parts and applications, such as various bench top, braun chamber, etc.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and management
