HME Equipment Technician - Delivery and Set up
ENTRY LEVEL - TRAINING PROVIDED

On-call every 7 weeks
Delivers and sets up or picks-up equipment from patient homes, hospitals and other health care facilities. Cleans, checks, troubleshoots, and performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment related to job requirements. Assists in the provision of quality equipment and supplies to patients/clients in the most cost-effective manner. Fills liquid oxygen equipment and operates oxygen transfilling equipment. Maintains a detailed audit trail of all equipment transactions that have been received, delivered or disposed.

· Ensures quality and safe delivery of services to patients according to care plan. Uses equipment and supplies safely, effectively, and efficiently.
· Consistently utilizes a holistic approach considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of patients served in assigned service area.
· Provides education to staff on the proper use of equipment.
· Provides technical phone support for patients/caregivers.
· Performs and coordinates equipment repair and calibration to medical equipment
· Troubleshoots and performs minor non-routine maintenance on equipment
· Coordinates the outsourced repair of medical equipment with qualified vendors.
· Completes performance verification procedures of equipment.
· Maintains records on all actions performed on equipment
· Cleans and sanitizes equipment prior to performing repairs.
· Provides collaborative assistance in the proper equipment selection process.

· Accurately documents and maintains required departmental, company and regulatory paperwork in a timely manner.
· Maintains familiarity with the functionality of all lines of medical equipment.

· Employee is responsible for completion of communication tasks and activities in a timely manner. This would include, but is not limited to: responding to email, voicemail or telephone messages, promptly, accurately, and professionally; attending staff meetings as scheduled or viewing videotapes of those meetings; asking questions of team members and supervisors when needing clarification about various day-to-day issues or patient needs; and reviewing employee communication pieces, to stay aware of UnityPoint at Home programs and initiatives.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

· Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
· Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
· Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
· Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
· High School or Vocational School graduate or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Strong interpersonal skills.
Experience:
· Must possess excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgment, decision making and problem solving expertise.
· Previous computerized practice management/billing system experience.
· Knowledge of industry specific rules and regulations.
· Knowledge of diagnostic and procedural coding requirements in conjunction with submission of insurance claims to third party payers.
· Knowledge of personnel administration and patient relation principles.
· Ability to work as a collaborative team member.
· Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.
Five years’ experience in patient care/ customer service.
Completion of a two year associates degree course in Electronic Technology or equivalent.
License(s)/Certification(s):
· Back Safety Training
· Mandatory annual equipment training and competencies.
· Licensed driver in the State of Residence.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work as a collaborative team member.
Valid licensed driver with automobile insurance in accordance with state and/or organizational requirements.
· Five years’ experience in repair and maintenance of Home Medical Equipment.
Other:
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
