Job Title: Senior Lab Technician Job Description
As a Lab Technician III, you will operate, prepare, and control seed and production fermenters, follow SOPs, and manually manipulate valves on fermenters. You will conduct sterilization checks, clean and sanitize fermenters, and monitor levels on all fermenters. Basic microbiology techniques, including aseptic technique, will be used. You will handle lab equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, pumps, and scales, prepare media, and clean glassware. Additionally, you will complete downstream processing of bacterial cultures, take a lead role in the production area, and communicate progress with your supervisor.
Responsibilities
Operate, prepare, and control seed and production fermenters.
Follow SOPs and manually manipulate valves on fermenters.
Conduct sterilization checks on fermenters and enter to clean and sanitize.
Monitor levels on all fermenters.
Utilize basic microbiology techniques including aseptic technique.
Use lab equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, pumps, and scales.
Prepare media and clean glassware.
Complete downstream processing of bacterial cultures.
Take a lead role in the production area.
Communicate with the supervisor on the progress of production in the lab.
Monitor daily activities in the department.
Train and mentor employees on responsibilities, technical abilities, and overall development in the lab.
Clean biological production area and assist where needed.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Animal Science, Biomedical Science, or related field.
5+ years of experience in a laboratory environment.
Experience with fermentation processes is a plus.
Strong multitasking abilities.
Proven ability to work independently.
Demonstrated leadership skills.

Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
Ability to adapt and be flexible in a variety of situations.
Intermediate ability with Microsoft Office Suite, Internet Software, and E-mail.

Ability to troubleshoot errors and problems encountered during the production process.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and correct minor mechanical problems.
Ability to perform aseptic hand filling operations.
Ability to gown sterilely.
Ability to use computerized inventory control systems.
Work Environment
The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm. The dress code is casual; however, sterile gowns/scrubs will be provided and must be worn. The job involves working with chemicals, dust, and powders to make media, all conducted with proper PPE and safety regulations. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds occasionally, as well as prolonged standing, crouching, stooping, and walking. Manual dexterity is required for repetitive motions and operating laboratory equipment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
