Valent BioSciences QC Analyst Intern, Valent Biosciences, LLC in Osage, Iowa
Several opportunities are available for summer 2023 at Valent BioScience's Biorational Manufacturing Facility located in Osage, Iowa for Production Engineer, Pilot Plant Engineer, QC Analyst, and Project Engineer interns.
The summer 2022 internships will typically start middle of May and conclude middle of August.

JOB SUMMARY and KEY OBJECTIVES
The Quality Control Analyst Intern will learn and be exposed to various Quality Control test methods for Valent BioSciences Corporation product release. The various assays include High Performance Liquid Chromotography (HPLC), bioassays with insects, physical tests, microbiological tests, and culture preparation. The intern may also learn how to rear high quality insects in our insectary. In addition, the intern will be exposed to current good manufacturing practices (GMP).
Each intern will be assigned projects that are pre-determined by Quality department management with a focus within a specific area in the lab such as Microbiology, Entomology, Physical Chemistry or HPLC. Each intern will be required to write a project charter, all applicable protocols and procedures, and provide a final presentation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Testing of raw materials, in-process, and finished goods.
Perform chemical testing using analytical instrumentation including HPLC, Gas Chromotography, etc.
Perform insect bioassay testing.
Perform insectary work with a significant focus on cleanliness and consistency.
Troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation and administer simple repairs as needed.
Bacterial culture inoculations and testing in a cleanroom setting.
Perform bioburden testing according to standard bacteriology methods.
Completion of bench records and data entry.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES and TASKS
Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment and instrumentation.
Preparation of standards and stock solutions.
Maintenance of test methods and test procedures.
Data Entry within Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
Conduct and / or assist with laboratory investigations and deviations.
Adhere to testing schedules to accomplish a high volume of critical work without compromising the integrity of the results while meeting the scheduling needs of manufacturing.
Must have flexibility to work some off-shift and weekend hours.
Other duties as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS and EDUCATION
HS diploma or equivalent required. Majoring in one of the following: Biology, Entomology, Microbiology, Virology, Chemistry or closely related field desired.
Understanding of Good Aseptic Technique.
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) knowledge is beneficial.
Understanding of physical/analytical instrumentation.
Understanding of High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Gas Chromatography (GC) is beneficial.
Understanding of bacterial based assays.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and other spreadsheet/database software.
Good written and verbal communication required.
Ability to write, comprehend, and understand written scientific procedures.
