HVAC-Mechanical Services Technician

Northwestern College is seeking applicants for an HVAC-mechanical services technician to begin immediately. This is a full-time, 12-month position maintaining the HVAC aspects of physical plant systems for college-owned buildings. This role reports to the director of facilities management and is responsible for maintaining the physical plant, in accordance with policies and procedures and current federal, state and local regulations.

Job responsibilities include installation and repair of HVAC systems, kitchen equipment, refrigeration equipment, smoke and fire alarms, and building automation. In addition, scheduling and monitoring building automation systems and working with electrical and plumbing personnel are required. Must know how to work with 120/280v, and 277/480v single and three-phase. This person is also responsible for prioritizing and performing routine maintenance tasks as needed and documenting labor and material used in our work-order system. The person is also on a rotation for after-hour service calls and emergencies.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will hold a valid 1-year HVAC diploma or be in an apprenticeship program. Should hold an EPA certificate for handling refrigerant and have a state mechanical license. The ideal candidate will have an associate’s degree or 1-3 years of post-high school training in the HVAC trade, with preference given to those with 3 years of progressive experience in HVAC construction, maintenance, building trades, system integration, troubleshooting, refrigeration, etc. The candidate must be a person with strong organizational and computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office products; solid interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; and the ability to multitask. The candidate must be a self-starter with attention to detail and a team player willing to contribute in a collegiate environment.
