Location Description Michael Foods, Inc. located in Norwalk, Iowa is a southern suburb in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. We are known for knowing our neighbors and enjoying a great quality of life! Our location produces high quality precooked egg patties as well as various French Toast products. Responsibilities Hours: 5:30am - 6pm Schedule: 12 hours (2,2,3) SUMMARY: The Maintenance Lead is responsible for leading, directing, and executing all maintenance work including emergency repair, reactive maintenance and proactive maintenance activities. The role will also support safety, quality, food safety and performance KPIs. This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Promote, and foster Michael Foods culture, values, and principles Assist in completing root cause analysis process by collecting evidence necessary on shift Must observe and practice all Department/Plant Procedures including wearing the required PPE Adherence to plant safety, food safety, sanitation standards, and following all GMP guidelines. To improve the safety, reliability, and efficiency through work execution and timely response to emergency and urgent production needs. Report accurate communications on any incidents and/or work-related injuries from shift. Motivate team members through energetic and positive engagement while Inspiring team members by leading through example. Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP) to order and lookup parts, write work orders, review scheduled work orders, print out work orders, charge time to work orders and enter results for executed work. Ability to train mechanics on CMMS system as needed. Communicate results of work and any follow-up back to customers i.e. operations team, plant leadership team, QA team, Safety/Food Safety team when appropriate and/or as required. Participate in daily shift meetings as required; provide consistent communications (through self or others) and maintain a floor presence in assigned work area. Request gap closure capability of maintenance technicians through MFI Maintenance skills development program by partnering with Maintenance Supervisor and assist in training efforts. Provide Feedback to Performance Management evaluations within the spirit of the Performance Management program. Execute scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on shift using precision maintenance techniques and troubleshoot/diagnose intermittent failures. Engage in hands-on work and show what looks good to team members. Plan and directs the activities based on Plant work priority standards within the maintenance team to ensure Plant equipment is maintained at precision levels consistent with company specifications. Ensures adherence to maintenance process (means) by crew members including escalation plans. Support activities of a technical planner to repairs by ensuring technicians are providing details scope in their own work orders. Look for continuous improvement opportunity and feedback on scheduled work and PM activities back to maintenance supervisor and technical planner. Utilizes visual factory and conditional monitoring concepts when it is part of standard work. Assist in implementation of capital projects, Plant productivity projects OEM and contractor visits as needed. Able to get certified in CPR, First Aid and Forklift Operation. May be requested to cover vacation for maintenance supervisor. Assume personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks. Adhere to Quality work practices, follow all GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality. Ensure regulatory compliance at all times. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE REQUIRED: EDUCATION: AA in Engineering, Operations or Applicable technical knowledge or Degree/Certification from Trade School. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in industrial operations, Plant operations, maintenance, utilities and/or related field. Read and decipher mechanical drawings, schematics, and piping diagrams. Experience in the installation, diagnosing and repairing mechanical equipment through troubleshooting required. Electrical troubleshooting is a plus. Ability to diagnose and repair of all mechanical power transmission equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, process pumps, control valves, sensors, positioners, actuators, manifolds, vacuum systems, air filtration, lubrication devices and basic electrical AC/DC Troubleshooting and related system. Skilled or Knowledge in welding, sanitary welding, pipe fitting, soldering, rigging application and use of mechanical tools, hand tools, and power tools. Skilled or Knowledge in machine shop to fabricate within specific tolerance using various measuring equipment. Vernier, calipers, and depth gauges etc. 480v 3 phase knowledge required. Knowledge and practice of NFPA 70E is preferred. Experience or knowledge of personal/process control computers, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and Networking devices a plus. Allen Bradley experiences a plus. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Good oral/written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in both one-on-one and small group situations. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract two-digit numbers, to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and various weight measurements, volume and distances. REASONING ABILITY: Proven ability to effectively lead teams by successfully motivating and coaching others including strong follow through, communication, interpersonal, and teambuilding skills. Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate in a team environment and build, positive working relationships with all team peers and customers. Ability to be flexible to shift priorities in a constantly changing, fast-paced work environment Proven conflict resolution skills; be able to think through relatively complex issues and arrive at well-thought conclusions. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Specific skills and abilities required that are not included in other sections: Competent in using Microsoft Office and CMMS System (Preferably SAP). Ability to travel for training and continuous improvement activities. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to endure daily excessive walking, standing, crouching, lifting (excess of 60lbs), twisting, climbing, reaching.
