POSITION SUMMARY

This role will be the get it done resource for process improvement initiatives that will yield major efficiencies and cost savings for the company. Full exposure to the entire business, working inter-functionally and offering technical expertise or support with our Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance and Tool and Die, Operations, Safety Teams, etc.

This full-time position reports directly to the Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Manager and is located at Safco Products manufacturing plant in Milford, Iowa.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies opportunities and implements changes to improve products and reduce costs using knowledge of technical processes (fabrication: metal/wood, welding, powder-coat paint, etc.), tooling and production equipment, quality control standards, product design, materials and parts to deliver ergonomic improvements, cost savings, and quality improvements year over year.
  • Determine root causes of failures using detailed observation and statistical methods to partner with teams to provide and drive solutions.
  • Recommend/implement changes in designs, tolerance, or processing methods.
  • Support Manufacturing Engineers with the get it done mentality by following plans they set or even filling in the missing details.
  • Responsible for implementation and coordination of cell layout for existing and new products once designed by Manufacturing Engineer
  • Partnership with Manufacturing Engineer on new equipment installation.
  • Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
  • Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials or processes.
  • Support the review of product designs for manufacturability or completeness.
  • Construct functional prototype tooling, fixturing and components.
  • Completion of time studies to ensure accuracy for efficiency.
  • Develop/revise documentation (eg: deviations to routings, work instructions/SOPs, time studies, BOM corrections, updating changes to RBFs) for new and existing products.
  • Train production personnel in new or existing methods.
  • Communicate manufacturing capabilities or other information to facilitate production processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Associate degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering Technology, related field or equivalent experience.
  • Must have 5-10 years of related experience working in manufacturing.
  • Ability to read and understand blue prints (drawings).
  • Experience in gathering and implementing labor standards.
  • Must be able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to efficiently organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Exhibit high attention to detail and exercise sound judgment in decisions.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Team Player and Collaboration skills.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Prior work experience in Wood, Metal Fabrication, Welding, Power-Coat Paint or Sewing/Upholstery is a plus.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Solid Works is a plus.
  • Experience welding or running CNC machines preferred.
  • Prior work experience with JDE/Oracle in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience a plus.
