Position Title: Athletic Grounds/Facilities Specialist Department: Operations and Maintenance Immediate Supervisor: Building and Grounds Manager
Summary: Supervises an athletic fields crew and participates in the manicuring and maintenance of Linn-Mar athletic fields and facilities so that they are safe, clean and attractive for students, staff and patrons. Supervises and participates in the preparation of athletic fields for practices, games, matches and other events. Required to work evenings and weekends during peak operating seasons.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned) **
- Supervise and participate in the set up prior to all athletic events:
- Groom and Maintain playing fields
- Mow and trim designated areas[]{#_GoBack}
- Move/set up athletic equipment both indoors and outdoors
- Set up and store equipment before and after athletic events
- Supervise and participate in the removal and proper storage of all equipment after athletic events
- Maintain safe working conditions to ensure the safety of all students, visitors and District staff.
- Maintain regular, preventative and predictive maintenance programs for school athletic facilities
- Supervise and participate in the general maintenance of athletic grounds and District grounds as needed to include:
- Mowing, trimming, fertilizing and spraying
- General maintenance of sidewalks, paths, parking lots and playgrounds
- Properly clean and store equipment after use
- Work cooperatively with Athletic Directors, Administrators and other District staff in all athletic facility events
- Make final determination for playing fields safety and satisfactory conditions for athletic events in regard to weather or incident postponements/cancelations.
- Ensure all Athletic grounds are kept clean and debris and litter is removed
- Participate in personnel administrative functions (e.g. interviewing, selecting, evaluation, supervising, training, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel, and achieving department and District objectives.
- Make minor repairs on equipment such as mowers and line painters used in set up and maintenance for athletic events
- Supervise and participate with the installation and repair of irrigation at athletic fields.
- Write and submit work orders for maintenance needs of athletic facilities and equipment
- Perform light maintenance relating to athletic fields/complexes, courts and playing surfaces
- Operate recreational equipment such as mowers, tractors, skid steer, line painter, utility vehicles, etc.
- Coordinate with the Building and Grounds Supervisor winter snow removal from district lots
- Enforce rules and regulations for the safety and welfare of staff and participants
- Operate a motor vehicle for the purpose of picking up supplies, transporting needed equipment to designated facilities or maintaining athletic facility grounds
- Regular and reliable attendance
- Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and evaluate workers as assigned
Minimum Education or Experience High school graduate or GED required Two or four year turf degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Experience in a related field preferred
Licensure or Certification Valid driver's license Must be willing to obtain a CDL class A combination license Possess an Iowa certified pesticide applicators license

Knowledge of Chemicals and chemical Applications for Sports Fields and other Grass areas. Basic knowledge of varsity field maintenance (practice fields not included), gymnasium, team locker area cleanliness. Able to transport supplies and equipment from one location to another. Able to operate equipment and tools in order to accomplish tasks. Skillful in the correct use and maintenance of equipment Skillful in minor equipment and building maintenance repairs. Skillful in planning, organizing and prioritizing. Good verbal and written communication skills. Good hand/eye coordination skills. Able to respond to requests in a courteous and helpful manner. Able to perform basic mathematical skills. Able to read, write and interpret rules, reports and procedure manuals as required. Able to recognize problems, determine causes, and take appropriate action for resolution. Possess a valid Iowa Drivers' license. Able to perceive identification numbers marked on material; read and understand numbers and volumes; and transcribe numbers.

The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and waist more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the employee will lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. with assistance. The employee will sometimes push/pull items. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to transport supplies and equipment from one location to another.
