Seed Germination Technician – Johnston, IA
Full-time, Seasonal Contract role (W-2)
Schedule: Monday – Saturday
Start Date: July 1 st or August 1 st
End Date: November 31 st (potential conversion to permanent role)
Pay: $19.00/hr (bonus/raise structure included below)
Job Description:
With guidance from supervision and within established procedures, conducts routine research laboratory activities, information/data management activities or operates small scale production equipment in support of research and development.
Identifies and suggests improvements in methods, plans projects of limited duration and scope, troubleshoots when erroneous or unexpected results occur.
Responsible for producing research experimental results, or information/data management results, or assembling and configuring of small-scale production equipment and control systems utilizing a variety of techniques, effectively documenting findings and communicating results.
Working in seed quality testing laboratory with a focus on vigor and viability germination testing.
Evaluate seedlings according to testing criteria.
Plant germination tests by shaking and sorting kernels onto germination substrate.
Place germination tests in different growth environments.
Must have a strong attention to detail.
Be willing and able to stand for extended periods and lift 50 pounds
Pay: $19.00 per hour to start
$0.75 raise after completing training (approx. 2-3 weeks) once they receive certification to evaluate corn
Once the employee reaches the expected quality (65 reps/hour evaluating and 3 reps per hour planting), they will receive a $1.00 raise
From 8/21 to 11/22; those individuals who cross train and work with Sample Size department will receive a $0.75 shift premium (this will be for about 4 hours per day)
From 9/25-11/4 (Peak Season); top performers who have 80+ reps/hour will receive a $25 weekly bonus
From 9/25-11/4 employees achieving attendance metrics will receive a $50 weekly bonus
There will be overtime for these positions
