PRICE ELECTRIC has several ELECTRICAL APPRENTICE openings for the Iowa City area. If you enjoy working with your hands and tools, problem solving, and learning and applying basic math and technical trade skills and you want to be part of growing industry, an apprenticeship career path may electrify your future!

The apprenticeship program allows you earn while you learn! After 160 hours of classroom training per year for four years and 8,000 on-the-job training hours, an apprenticeship graduate will be well prepared to take the Journeyman Electrician exam. For apprentices that PRICE ELECTRIC sponsors, half of the class fees are paid by the company at the beginning of each level and participants are reimbursed for all or some of their half based on their grade for the level (e.g., 100% reimbursement for receiving an A, 80% reimbursement for receiving a B). Check out PRICE ELECTRIC's website for more information.

Under the supervision of a Journeyman Electrician and/or Frontline Supervisor, an Electrical Apprentice works side by side with field operations personnel to assist with layout, installation, alteration and repair of electrical wiring, apparatus and equipment in Eastern Iowa Residential and Service settings. This includes material handling; equipment handling, operation and light maintenance; job site cleaning; and completion of job hazard analysis and other required reporting.

Apprentices must first and foremost comply with all safety processes while following the direction of knowledgeable leaders to help the team meet high production and quality standards. This takes proven reliability; effective communication and interaction skills; good time management and organization; ability to read, learn and understand construction drawings and National Electrical Code and local codes; and a high school diploma or GED to be considered for the registered apprenticeship program.

Physical demands include, but are not limited to, the ability to work 40 or more hours per week; frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs. and occasional lifting of up to 80 lbs.; occasional lifting from floor to above shoulder; continuous standing, walking and/or climbing; regular squatting, kneeling and sitting; repetitive use of hands for frequent grasping, pushing and pulling and fine motor coordination; repetitive use of feet for operating equipment, conduit benders and vertical climbing; adequate balance for frequent climbing; and adequate vision for blueprint reading and color coding to identify wire.

Since the job requires travel to and from customer job sites where work is typically performed, a valid driver's license and good driving record are needed. Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in varied weather conditions. Specialized training and personal protective equipment is provided if working at heights, in confined spaces or when exposed to occasional dust, fumes, etc.
