Manager the quality control and food safety functions and lab team, while providing information to customers and departments as required. Collaborate with corporate quality assurance to ensure all raw materials and finished products conform to company and customer specifications.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED/Associate’s degree in a science field with three to six years of experience in quality and food safety, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture, biological, food science, or related field, plus two to three years related work experience in a food-processing environment is desired.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Ensure quality and food safety is maintained by operations.

  • Manage the quality control team with effective direction and training of quality processes and procedures.

  • Oversee quality procedures, product export requirements and biosecurity programs.

  • Train new employees on quality systems and certification programs (cGMPs, SOPs, HACCP, SQF, NASC, SF/SF, etc.) applicable to each plant and assist in maintaining training files for each employee.

  • Be certified Safe Quality Food practitioner with responsibility and authority to:

  • Lead the development and implementation of Food Safety Fundamentals, cGMP Programs, Food Safety Plan

  • Oversee development, implementation review, and maintenance of the SQF system

  • Take the appropriate action to maintain the integrity of the SQF system

  • Communicate to the relevant personnel all information to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF system.

  • Oversee and maintain plant sanitation programs, including master sanitation schedule.

  • Serve as the representative (PCQI) for all in-house audits by certifying bodies, customers, or regulatory authorities.

  • As a member of the plant leadership team, support all plant goals and programs.

  • Conduct internal audits for compliance with LGI/APC requirements.

  • Oversee quality control (QC) programs and functions, including laboratory testing and quality systems.

  • Schedule and/or test raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products, or other tests as required in a timely manner.

  • Oversee raw materials to ensure vendor compliance with specifications.

  • Review manufacturing batch records for quality and regulatory compliance.

  • Lead the investigation of any process deviations.

  • Coordinate sampling and release of product after tests are completed for conformance to specifications.

  • Assist in the non-conformance investigation and resolution in the Corrective Action System any products and procedures that do not meet specifications.

  • Coordinate of the disposition of off specification product.

  • Oversee and conduct calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

  • Oversee the purchasing supplies and maintenance laboratory equipment.

  • Analyze and trend finished product data as a tool for evaluation of the current manufacturing process’s ability to meet finished product specifications.

  • Support operations with Change Control activities for the facility.

  • Responsible for effectively working with customers when required.

  • Work effectively in quality software and programs, e.g., Reliance, LIMS, and INFOR.

  • Support operations with water treatment/lagoon records, if applicable.

  • Assist in the selection of products to fill customer orders assuring each customer receives products meeting their specifications.

  • Lead market withdrawal or recall of product, if needed, as well as mock exercises.

  • Assist in the resolution of customer complaints.

  • Provide support to R&D and technical support as needed.

  • In the absence of the Quality Control Supervisor, the Plant Manager, or designee, shall cover the duties of the role.

  • Provides direction and oversight for the external pest control program.

  • Operate company vehicle as required.

  • All other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Manage priorities and work schedules according to companies’ needs and demands.

  • Knowledge of organizational methods and the ability to manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously.

  • Knowledge and ability to implement, track and ensure adherence to all training requirements.

  • Knowledge of various computer software (Windows, Word, Excel, Email, Reliance, MAPICS/INFOR, LIMS, etc.)

  • Ability to train, develop, and evaluate the QC team ensuring a competent work force that can effectively accomplish department and company objectives.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with corporate management, contractors, venders, suppliers and other business related contacts.

  • Technical ability to conduct established product inspections and testing methods, including instrumentation testing for protein, moisture, fat, sediment, and microbiological test for standard plate count, or other tests as required.

  • Accuracy in filling out paperwork and recording data, including testing data.

  • Ability to work effectively and objectively with other personnel. Must demonstrate a willingness to seek (objectively and constructively) the opinions of superiors or other assigned appropriate staff to resolve differences and provide guidance.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of company information when required.

  • Ability to work weekends and extended hours as necessary.
