UnityPoint Health Supervisor Facilities Services-Plant Operations-Methodist in Des Moines, Iowa

The facilities supervisor shall direct coordinate and supervise maintenance resources to attain optimum productivity, efficiency and service to customers. Supports the delivery of services to UPHDM customers by ensuring necessary building and equipment maintenance is performed. Proper execution of these responsibilities enables UPHDM to provide high quality, efficient and cost effective services.

  • Maintains records on all actions performed on items under the responsibility of the Facilities Department.

  • Displays considerable initiative and judgment involved in determining extent of repairs as may be required on all equipment and buildings selecting appropriate materials, utilizing the most effective methods, techniques and procedures when required to complete job assignments.

  • Cooperates with Facilities Manager and other employees to maintain equipment, parts and supplies and makes recommendations to Facilities Manager regarding desired changes in operation and maintenance procedures.

  • Keeps informed through periodicals, books, training seminars, on-the-job training and other sources and participates in approved training programs to further knowledge.

  • Coordinates work with contractors and vendors.

  • Supervises daily operations of the maintenance area (mechanics, carpenters, painters, outproperties maintenance).

  • Interviews, orients, trains, schedules, evaluates and disciplines staff with appropriate input.

  • Schedules, facilitates and documents in-service educational programs for department staff.

  • Processes daily time reports for the proper tracking of work order requests.

  • Performs on-call duties during unscheduled working hours as assigned and is able to respond to emergency calls when necessary.

  • Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other’s views, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest.

  • Uses reliable private transportation when needed with suitable compensation.

  • Performs functions other than described below due to extenuating circumstances.

Minimum Requirements

Preferred or Specialized


High school graduate or equivalent.

Completion of a trade school course or trade apprenticeship program is desired but not mandatory.

Trade school or Trade apprenticeship


Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in industrial or commercial operations in the maintenance field.

Minimum of two (2) years’ experience of supervisory experience.

Must be familiar with building maintenance techniques as applied to systems and equipment.

Hospital experience desirable but not mandatory


Masters Electrical License

Must have a valid driver’s license

Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) certification


Building maintenance operations

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.


Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
