DES MOINES WATER WORKS Seasonal Grounds Laborer in DES MOINES, Iowa
Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Property Management, performs manual labor duties to assist in the construction, maintenance and/or repair of the equipment, grounds and facilities of Des Moines Water Works. This is a seasonal position that will be available frommid Spring (April/May)and lasting through mid August.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Performs heavy manual labor duties to assist in the construction and maintenance of grounds and/or repair of equipment. This position will be re-assigned on as-needed basis. Under the direction of the gardener and lead gardener assists in routine horticulture activities including weeding, watering, trimming, mulching and planting. Inspects equipment to identify equipment to be repaired or replaced and notifies the supervisor accordingly. Performs preventative maintenance tasks on agricultural and construction equipment. Performs heavy manual labor including repairing and replacing equipment parts, hand digging, washing parts, building fence, trash removal and miscellaneous cleaning of equipment. Sets up traffic control devices around the work site to ensure safety of workers and the public. Maintains and cleans the work area to ensure a positive public image. Operates a wide variety of equipment used in grounds maintenance including but not limited to blowers, weed-eaters, push mowers, edgers, and tillers. Performs other duties of a similar nature.
QUALIFICATIONS:Valid Drivers License with a good driving record it required Must be 18 years or older Pre-employment physical and drug test required. Requires ability to work without harm to the health and safety of self and others. Possesses ability to understand and follow verbal, written and demonstrated instructions.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:*Exerts excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and excess of 20 pounds of force constantly. *Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions in various conditions such as on ladders and in confined spaces.
