Corteva Agriscience Post-Doctoral Visiting Scientist in Plant Genome Engineering in Des Moines, Iowa
The Post-doctoral Visiting Scientist will serve as an integral member of a research team focused on somatic embryogenesis in major cereal crops, conducting novel research towards discovering both genetic and epigenetic factors that mitigate somatic embryogenesis to facilitate rapid plant formation. This is a hands-on role and will require management of technical projects, as well as coordination with other scientists to accomplish objectives. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with strong technical background, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
This role will be on-site at our Corteva location in Johnston.
What you will do:
The Post-Doc scientist will lead a research project on using morphogenic genes to improve somatic embryo initiation and development in cereal crops. The post-doc scientist will conduct research, analyze and interpret results, suggest new experimental directions, compose written updates and present/deliver verbal updates.
Perform molecular, biochemical and cell biological studies to understand de novo somatic embryogenesis in maize and other cereal crops, by exploring genetic and epigenetic factors that impact the process.
Identify, evaluate, and implement new methods aiming to improve lab processes and outcomes.
The Post-Doc scientist will train and supervise team members as appropriate.
The Post-Doc scientist is expected to publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
What is required from you?
PhD in Plant Biology, Molecular Biology, Functional Genomics, or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in some combination of plant tissue culture, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or computational biology, used to solve developmental biology questions.
Deep understanding of molecular biology and tissue culture techniques to guide research on use of morphogenic genes to improve somatic embryogenesis in grass crops.
Demonstrated superior ability for experiment planning, execution and troubleshooting, and ability to develop/optimize protocols.
Must be self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as a team member
Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communications, and interpersonal relationships.
