Amentum Fleet Operations Supervisor in Des Moines, Iowa
Responsible for supervision, management, and long-range planning for McMurdo Station Equipment Operations. This includes all road maintenance/heavy equipment operations around station, blasting operations, explosives assets, crane operations, project support, airfield maintenance, science support, vessel operations support, and traverse preparations within a 75-mile radius of McMurdo Station. Deploys to Antarctica for approximately six months each year.
Position Responsibilities:
Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace
Coordinates equipment support for sustaining and project activities and provides information and reporting
Plans, prioritizes, and schedules work center tasks and assignments
Develops training plans, safety programs and procedures; reviews training plans and procedures annually, submits any necessary changes for approvals
Ensures all personnel are trained to safely perform their assigned tasks
Ensures operators inspect equipment and lifting fixtures in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and established procedures
Ensures operators perform daily maintenance in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and established procedures
Maintains accurate inventory and assures adequate materials are on hand for planned work
Prepares and maintains labor and equipment usage reports
Prepares and submits input for consideration in annual labor and material budgets for the Equipment Operations work center, including special projects as requested
Works closely with ASC Science Support personnel to evaluate and determine the supportability of proposed scientific projects given existing equipment and known environmental and operational constraints
Performs studies and creates a variety of products (documents, spreadsheets, etc.) in support of Operations Division metrics
Provides support to South Pole, South Pole Traverse (SPoT) and inland camps with labor and equipment as requested
Communicates and acts professionally in all meetings, interactions with customers, emails, and management of personnel
Reviews and analyzes work accomplishments, cost, and utilization of subordinates to evaluate work progress, control costs, and anticipate and avoid possible problems by recommending corrective action to upper-level management personnel
Manages budget and remains within parameters
Interviews and makes recommendations for hiring to meet staffing needs
Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management guidelines and policies
Accurately and completely tracks all data related to Operation Division metrics
Complies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance requirements and goals, and provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation
Performs other duties as required
Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:
Six years of experience in Fleet Operations, including project management and scheduling
Three years of experience at a supervisor level

Ability to manage a diverse, multi-skilled work force
Proficiency in providing labor and equipment projections for daily, weekly, and seasonal planning
Competent in creating and implementing relevant safety training programs
Skilled in effectively leading a multi-skilled workforce in a regularly changing environment to complete a wide variety of tasks
Competent in collaborating and working as a team with other departments
Excellent English language communication skills
Proficient in management of personnel and tasking prioritization
Intermediate level computer skill
Proficient in risk assessment and determination of risk management strategies
Proficient providing leadership and acting as a role model
Ability to quickly learn and utilize computer-based labor, inventory, and maintenance tracking applications
Solid decision-making ability and sound judgment to solve problems safely and effectively
Good organizational and planning skills
Preferred:
Three years of experience in project planning and scheduling
Class A or B CDL
Experience leading and managing heavy equipment operations on large projects
Experience building or maintaining roads, underground infrastructure, civil construction, mining operations and or airfields
Ability to create, read, understand, and provide feedback on project schedules and blueprints
Physical and/or Other Requirements :
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States

Amentum allows 10 days of flexible holidays per fiscal year to be pro-rated based off which quarter employment begins.
Biweekly pay periods.
Pay Range $ 90,000 through $110,000 annualized
