DES MOINES WATER WORKS Crew Leader - Pipelines in DES MOINES, Iowa
Under the general direction of the Water Distribution Supervisor supervises crew and performs duties of a crew member engaged in the operation, maintenance, and construction of the water distribution system. Is on-call on a rotational basis a week at a time for emergency repair work as required. Promotes safety and ensures safety rules are followed.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
: - Assigns duties and directs crews engaged in maintenance, repair, construction, and restorations related to the water distribution system. - Assures the work performed by Distribution crews meets DMWW standards for quality and timeliness. - Coaches and counsels team members for improved performance. Provides on-going on-the-job training to crew members. Assists management in skill assessment. - Prepares and completes required reports, daily records, time sheets, and work orders; notes field changes on drawings; provides input to the annual budget process. - Interprets construction drawings, sketches, electronic records (GIS), written or oral instructions. - Performs maintenance and repair on valves, hydrants and mains. - Installs and removes large and small taps. - Promotes safety by modeling safe work behaviors and supporting safety initiatives. - Ensures a safe work site for crew members by establishing traffic control, classifying soil, and determining proper shoring methods to meet OSHA and DOT requirements. - Represents DMWW when interacting and coordinating activities with our customers, contractors, city, county, governmental agencies, and others. - Makes requests to other utilities for location of their lines, cables, and pipes. - Protects water quality in the distribution system by following water quality procedures including isolation, repair, flushing, and sampling guidelines. - Works with management to coordinate work, balance conflicting priorities, and accomplish utility goals. - Performs other duties of similar nature.
