East Penn Manufacturing Company A5 ENVELOPER SERIES II 3RD SHIFT in CORYDON, Iowa
Series I Enveloper includes two positions: the first loads plates from racks to machine and the second removes plates from machine to racks.
Tends machine that envelopes and stacks plates which make groups that are used to make batteries.
Places separator material on a spool using a hoist device.
Loads 1 roll (weighing approximately 70 lbs.) about every 30-60 minutes.
Threads the material through the machine.
Must manually lift and load plates into the feeders.
Series II machines may have up to 4 feeders.
The 3rd feeder is an odd plate feeder.
The 1st feeder is a wrapped plate feeder and the 2nd feeder stacks a plate on the top of the wrapped plate.
The 3rd feeder is only used when running an odd plate count.
The employee picks up approximately 5 of pasted plates at a time, with an approximate weight of 20 lbs., and 100 plates per stack.
The average number of plates used in feeder #1 and #2 is 40,000 each.
Therefore, a person loading feeder #1 or feeder #2 could bend with a lifting motion approximately 400 times per shift or 1 time every 1.08 minutes.
Inspects and stacks groups then places them on pallets as required.
On average, a Series I Machine will produce 1000 batteries, so the employee will have to lift/bend and place a group approximately every 26 seconds on the pallet.
May also help to load plates.
When picking up plates and stacking groups the employee may have to bend as low as 6. Employees will be trained on both positions.
