BAE Systems Senior Director III, Manufacturing Technology and Systems - Hybrid in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Job Description
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.
The Senior Director, Manufacturing Technology and Systems is responsible for leading the manufacturing technology strategy for the Electronic Systems business segment at BAE Systems, Inc.
In this role, you will lead automation strategy formulation and execution, develop and deploy a Sector-wide new product introduction strategy, optimize and employ best in class analytics, and manage the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) across a footprint spanning multiple facilities, geographies, technologies, cost account segments, and business models. You will be accountable for delivering best in class advanced manufacturing technologies to enable world class quality and delivery to our customers.
This role will report directly to the Vice President, Operations of Electronic Systems. This position is a hybrid role based at one of our major Electronic Systems manufacturing locations: Nashua, NH (and surrounding area); Cedar Rapids, IA; Austin, TX; Endicott, NY; Fort Wayne, IN.
Primary Responsibilities:
Understand and appreciate business objectives and be committed to partnering with business leaders to create a best for the enterprise service delivery model in data analytics and AI/ML.
Lead the deployment and subsequent management of the Operations Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
Develop and implement an NPI optimization / rationalization plan to support current and future production requirements, including detailed analysis of the existing capacity, capability and scalability of digital manufacturing as well as analysis of existing business processes and teams across functional boundaries to inform an optimal future state.
Lead the long term technology road map for the Operations function, clearly articulating long term technology strategy and investment requirements. Identify and mature new manufacturing technologies through capture of internal and external funding sources, and partner with industry in defining the future for electronics manufacturing.
Act as Lead Chief technology leader for all of our tooling, process, and capacity optimization. Establish and maintain close partnerships with the Engineering function as well as our Fast Labs technology incubation team.
Measure and regularly report out on strategies, plans, activities, and results to senior leadership.
Serve as a member of the Electronic Systems Operations leadership team, actively partnering with other leadership team members to drive innovative, strategic, and consistent manufacturing strategies across all of Electronic Systems.
Demonstrate highly visible leadership to all levels of the Operations function, with excellent affinity to the production floor. Lead by example, fostering innovative problem solving, performance excellence, and continuous improvement to deliver affordable, effective, and dependable solutions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Typically a Bachelor s degree in a technical discipline and a minimum of 15 years of experience with electronic systems manufacturing processes and systems.
Minimum LSS Green Belt.
Must be willing to travel up to 25%.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. BAE Systems, Inc. will not offer sponsorship for this position.
This role requires the ability to obtain a security clearance.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Experience leading a complex manufacturing business with revenues of at least $500M across multiple sites.
Experience deploying and managing Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) / PM.
Demonstrated success leading New Product Introduction and manufacturing technology insertion across a broad portfolio of complex electronics production.
Expertise utilizing lean principles and a track record of success in developing significant improvements.
Experience establishing a vision, gaining cross-organizational support for that vision, and implementing that vision and facilitating change in a logical, methodical manner.
Project management and prioritization skills with proven attention to detail.
A high degree of willingness to challenge accepted manufacturing processes and standards with an interest in innovation.
Ability to marshal resources to get things done, orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal, and use resources effectively and efficiently. Proven skills partnering across the business and the ability to collaborate within and across organizational boundaries.
Executive level communication skills with experience presenting complex information to senior leaders.
Exceptional negotiation skills with the ability to negotiate win-win solutions at a high level with internal and external customers and partners in a timely and decisive manner.
Exhibits a high degree of technical credibility and communicates highly technical information in a simplistic and easily understandable way. Analytical skills to draw appropriate conclusions from data, anticipating second and third order effects when making recommendations.
Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills with the ability to achieve results through others and a focus on holistic leadership.
Previous experience working for a government defense contractor.
MBA or MS degree.
Black Belt certification from ASQ.
