PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Ensure order fulfillment to meet customer demand, quality, cost, and safety standards for assigned Value Stream or Shift. Responsible for coordinating and managing assigned resources and employees to meet production goals. Lead the department in daily operations including safety, establishing manufacturing priorities, coordination with other areas of the business, and continuous improvements.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a safe working environment and model and enforce safety policies. Drive safety culture through proactive measures such as hazard identifications, observation and safety audits.

  • Directly supervise a department or shift of production employees with the goal of meeting/exceeding requirements for Safety, Quality, OTD, efficiency and cost.

  • Lead safety process/accident investigation for production team members.

  • Understand, follow, and utilize the established Collective Bargaining Agreement and Rules & Regulations

  • Create effective plan to fill, train, and cross-train team members to ensure coverage in all areas of the Value Stream or shift.

  • Communicate across shifts and departments to maintain clear alignment and execution of daily priorities.

  • Track and trend cell level performance to Target. Identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Coordinate and lead corresponding activities to eliminate high bar problems.

  • Drive continuous improvement through the department, shift, or value stream by utilizing different lean principles to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.

  • Responsible for employee engagement, develop strategy to maintain and/or improve Employee Engagement, Manager Effectiveness, and Performance Enablement categories.

  • Engrain the IDEX Values and IDEX Difference into the Operation’s culture.

  • Ensure all company policies and procedures are adhered to by carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with established policies, Collective Bargaining Agreement, and applicable laws, including:

  • Interviewing, onboarding, and training of new and transferring employees

  • Planning, Assigning, and Directing work

  • Rewarding, coaching and disciplining employees through established framework

  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems

  • Accurately review and approve employee timecards, time off requests, overtime assignment, evaluations, job changes and temporary transfers.

  • Drive accountability through Safety, Quality, and adherence to Standard Work Instruction audits.

  • Develop and master key lean principles that are critical for value stream improvement.

  • Support operations during weekend and off shift hours when needed

  • Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Business, or Engineering preferred

  • Associate degree in a technical/related field with 5 years related manufacturing supervisory or lead role, OR

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 8 years in a manufacturing supervisory or leadership role.

  • Experience in a manufacturing setting including machining, assembly, quality.

  • Experience in a Union environment a plus.

OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to manage conflict.

  • Ability to collect, analyze, and make decisions using business metrics and data.

  • Ability to problem solve and improve processes using Six Sigma, Lean, or Kaizen principles.

  • Must be customer focused and know about internal and external customer relationships.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and have ability to influence without direct authority.

  • Self-motivated, with good organizational skills and be able to handle multiple tasks.

  • Must work well in a team environment.

  • Must have good written and oral communication skills.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.

  • Must be able to collect data on department metrics and create/maintain charts and graphs in Excel and make basic presentations in PowerPoint.

  • Proficient with MRP systems (JD Edwards preferred, but not required).

WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions.

  • Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person.

  • Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.

  • General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers, vendors or contractors and all levels of corporate and company personnel.

  • Requires frequent contact with personnel from all departments and at all management levels.
