Mary Greeley Medical Center Maintenance Engineer in Ames, Iowa

  • Position Summary

  • Functions under general supervision, performing a variety of maintenance jobs and preventive maintenance inspections, in and around the hospital complex.

  • Position Responsibilities

  • Unit Specific Position Responsibilities

  • Monitors gas-fired boilers and hot-water heating systems in the absence of HVAC engineer.

  • Maintains and repairs building pneumatic tube system.

  • Performs minor routine maintenance and repairs to building systems, including but not limited to, heating ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems.

  • Works with all trades in troubleshooting and making repairs to broad and diverse range of equipment and systems.

  • Performs assigned preventative maintenance completed in acceptable time frame given.

  • Inspects equipment and mechanical rooms. Reads and records gauges and meters. Observes the operations of equipment and reports unusual conditions and/or takes corrective action.

  • Installs, maintains and repairs equipment, machinery and mechanical/electrical systems, such as air compressors, medical gases, and vacuum systems.

  • Responds to and troubleshoots alarm systems.

  • Maintains mechanical and shop areas to facility standards.

  • Maintains communication with inventory personnel of parts and supplies.

  • Assists with answering the Request Line as needed.

  • Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):

  • Must demonstrate literacy of the English language, including reading equipment manuals, regulatory guidelines and other related material.

  • Possession of a current valid driver's license and must maintain eligibility for coverage under Mary Greeley Medical Center’s insurance policy.

  • Organizational Requirements:

  • De-escalation training prior to performing direct patient care or within 90 days of hire

  • All clinical night staff routinely working between the hours of 2300-0700 that work in Acute Rehab, Med Tele, Med Surg, Birthways, PEDS, NICU, and Oncology AND all clinical staff that work in Nursing Support Team, Behavioral Health, ED, ICCU, and House Managers will be required to take the combative patient response team training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Individuals less than 18 years old are excluded.
