Summary
The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) in the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for Diagnostic Associate I/II.
The ISU VDL is a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory engaged in missions of service, teaching and research on a daily basis. The laboratory processes 100,000+ submissions from veterinarians and researchers annually.
We are currently hiring for the following VDL laboratories:
Molecular
Bioinformatics
Bacteriology
R esponsible for conducting diagnostic tests or exams including analysis and release of results for samples being used for surveillance as well as sick animal diagnostic testing resulting in clinical decisions by submitting veterinarians.
Example of Duties
Performs a variety of diagnostic assay s or exams within a specific specialty area.
Completes daily and weekly lab tasks
Follows all necessary laboratory safety rules
Performs sample preparation and processing as part of the diagnostic testing protocol
After initial training, is able to analyze and release results independently
Identify and troubleshoot issues that arise in testing, typically with assistance of a senior coworker.
Evaluates current protocols for effectiveness of tests and uses independent judgement to determine when adjustments to procedures are necessary
Assists in training staff and students
Level Guidelines• Individual contributor position with developing professional and/or technical skills working under immediate to general supervision• Grasps professional-level knowledge and concepts of field while working in a progressive learning mode• Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope• Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data for which answers are available or can be obtained• Responds to inquiries and issues, escalating to manager or higher level workers as appropriate• May lead projects of limited scope and complexity• May provide guidance to students

This position will be hired as a Diagnostic Associate level I or II depending on the candidate's qualifications.
Diagnostic Associate Level I minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree
Pay Grade: PS806
Diagnostic Associate Level II minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 3 years of related experience
Pay Grade: PS807
