Meta Director, Site Operations Global Capacity Lead in Altoona, Iowa

Summary:

Meta is seeking an experienced leader with a deep technical background to support one of our key functions within Meta’s Data Center Site Operations team. The global capacity function is present in every one of our data centers and is responsible for ensuring Meta and our suite of applications always have the compute and storage infrastructure to reliably meet the ever-growing demand of more than 3 billion people actively engaged with Meta and our suite of applications. The Global Capacity Lead works with peer organizations and regional teams such as network operations, program management, facilities/maintenance management, logistics, supply chain operations, strategic planning, and capacity engineering to successfully deliver and maintain data center capacity to support ongoing business growth. Moreover, the Global Capacity Lead collaborates with cross-functional organizations and teams across the data center fleet to build and execute a strategic roadmap that anticipates our future needs.The goal of the Global Capacity Lead is to drive extensive, sustainable growth of our compute, AI/ML, and storage capabilities through operational efficiencies and high impact, strategic initiatives. The successful candidate is a subject matter expert who can drive innovation in data center capacity, spanning people, processes, operations, cost, reliability, global scale, tooling, and automation. We seek a leader who can quickly absorb and understand the technical challenges associated with delivering and sustaining data center capacity for a myriad of workloads, and in a rapidly evolving technical environment. The successful candidate will gain alignment across our data center operations teams and with teammates across Meta Infrastructure, prioritizing resources and focus areas to drive initiatives that deliver significant, measurable impact, all in line with our strategic priorities. You will lead Capacity Strategy, partner and communicate closely with other operations and engineering teams, stakeholders, and customers to deliver proactive, data-driven, industry-leading operational and technical excellence, to plan and deliver hyperscale Infrastructure Capacity. Strategic thinking, strong technical depth, and proven business acumen are essential in this role. You are well-versed in current technological trends and familiar with a variety of business and operations concepts. You will scale teams and operations, develop technologists and people leaders by enabling a culture of innovation and teamwork. You will drive innovative initiatives and deliver the right automation, processes, insights, and standards to enable Meta’s growth globally.

Required Skills:

Director, Site Operations Global Capacity Lead Responsibilities:

  1. Develop Global Capacity strategy for Site Operations, inclusive of technical, operations, and business elements to ensure alignment with Meta’s long term enterprise goals and across all partner Infrastructure organizations to deliver Infrastructure growth

  2. Be the authority and share an unmatched, deep technical expertise of all elements of the capacity function, including tooling, process and architecture

  3. Represent Data Center Site Operations in cross functional forums

  4. Drive a singular operations strategy, goals and priorities for the Global Capacity function within Site Operations

  5. Measure and benchmark the effectiveness of operational processes both internally and externally, setting performance targets and driving improvements to quality, throughput, and efficiency, in collaboration with data center capacity leads

  6. Meet or exceed operational goals for the Global Capacity Team

  7. Accountable for the planning, execution, and delivery of global capacity supply throughout the data center fleet

  8. Develop scaling strategies and plans, be forward thinking by understanding infrastructure growth, identifying scaling issues before they occur, and contributing to solutions

  9. Drive robust, timely communications across a globally distributed team

  10. Formulate the right metrics and definitions of success to drive quality, effectiveness, efficiency, scalability, cost and timelines

  11. Develop roadmaps for data center capacity, in collaboration with teammates and stakeholders, to address needs that include tooling, workflows, technologies and skills

  12. Develop close collaborations with Program Management, Tooling, Hardware, Capacity Planning, Sourcing and other teams to deliver superb operational results

  13. Formulate, execute and support initiatives that advance the Capacity team goals

  14. Ensure robust, timely communications across a globally distributed team, and provide the team great visibility to strategy and progress

  15. Provide people management, mentorship, coaching, and career development to members of the team to build a strong team culture and commitment to impact

  16. Maintain a close partnership and support data center teams while leading globally

  17. Approximately 30% travel required

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Proven experience, with 10+ years, as an Engineering or Operations Director, or relevant Senior Technical, Operations or Engineering Lead role

  2. Operational, technical and leadership experience

  3. Working knowledge of Infrastructure technology

  4. Proven experience leading tooling, systems, and automation improvement

  5. Interpersonal, influencing and communications skills

  6. Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving

  7. BS or BA in electrical, software or hardware engineering or commensurate experience
